How to Prepare Your Property for Container Delivery
Site Preparation Checklist
A smooth container delivery depends on good site preparation. Follow these steps to ensure a hassle-free experience when your Steel Can Containers delivery arrives in Winnipeg or anywhere in Manitoba.
1. Check Access Routes
Our delivery trucks are large. Ensure there is at least 14 feet of clearance height (for overhead obstacles) and a turning radius of approximately 60 feet. Measure your driveway and any gates in advance.
2. Prepare the Ground
Containers need level, firm ground. Soft or muddy soil can cause a container to sink or tilt. Gravel pads, railway ties, or concrete blocks placed at the four corners are the most popular and cost-effective solutions.
Recommended foundation options:
- Compacted gravel pad (most common)
- Railway ties or timber beams
- Concrete footings for permanent placement
- Interlocking concrete blocks
3. Mark the Placement Spot
Use spray paint or stakes to clearly mark exactly where you want the container placed. Remember that the container doors open outward and need at least 3 feet of clear space in front.
4. Notify Neighbours and Check Bylaws
In Winnipeg and surrounding municipalities, some zoning bylaws regulate the placement of containers on residential properties. Check with your local municipality before delivery.
Day of Delivery
Have someone available on-site to guide the driver and confirm placement. The entire delivery process typically takes 30–60 minutes once the truck arrives.
